THE Lord is great. His greatness manifests pointedly in his sheer will to create man in his own image. Reinforcing this greatness is the progressive transformation of the “void” state into a wonderful atmosphere by creating ocean, water, hills, green gardens, landscape which we refer to as nature. And because man harbours in him, the image of the Lord, he blends it so well to confirm his supremacy on them for his own comfort after losing the grace of the garden of Eden.

The ability of man’s effort to conquer his environment, dominate it so well and behave like his father in heaven could be clearly seen at Idanre Hills, Ondo State. It is a spectacular outcrop of delicately - perceived hills with cares and depression and of 3,000 feet above sea level. It is blessed with luxuriant rain forest with unique flora and fauna, particularly the monkeys. Tourists and adventurers to the top of the hill should be ready to climb over 465 concrete steps. Climbing this is challenging but rewarding as on the hill one will be confronted with sceneries and concrete evidence of the old settlement.

According to history, the Idanre people inhibited the high plain about 800 years ago. And the settlers left indelible monuments and heritage that confirmed that Idanre people are not only highly intelligent but have an organised society on the hill. From traditional court, into the market and to a sprawling palace which at its state can compare with the modern day palaces in town. The ancient Oke-Idanre constitute, one of the outstanding heritage sites in Ondo State and it is a testimony of a settlement that has endured many centuries. It is a delightful site to visit.
